AURORA FOUNDATION DAY

The most awaited event during the celebration of the annual Aurora. Foundation Day is the so-called ‘Karansa’: a Street Dancing Competition where the concept of cooperation and unity called ‘Paatag’ prevails as the overall theme of the day’s hilarious activities. Paraw Regatta is a well-attended and well-anticipated race of native double outriggers. Colourful paraws line-up the waters of the strait between the island province of Guimaras and Iloilo City. The paraw is a dugout, having an average length of 16 feet or 5.5 meters to 25 feet or 8 meters. They are fitted with outriggers that are mainly used as balancers against the tilting effect to the craft. The highlight of the event is the paraw race, a memorable and exciting spectacle, participated by men as they put their skills, stamina and strategy against one another for honours while spectators cheer the action from the shore.
